Open Mike Night Discussion
Hey, if you have ideas to throw out about the open mike night, we should put them all in the comments here, just so we dont have 50 different emails flying around. It's a little more organized this way.
I think that we should go ahead and start setting it up, with ASA helping with the flyers and such. My friend who is on SGA informed me that only campus clubs can get their flyers approved to hang up, so it looks like ASA is our only way to advertise through flyers. Obviously we have facebook too.
My idea is that we can do all of our ideas in one big shot... We can have three or so bands play, and in between the bands' sets(while the next band is setting up) we can have an open mike. And we can also have crazy art kids doing weird stuff on the side.
The only reason i wouldn't want to do just an "art only" type thing, as Kate suggested, is that bands/music appeal to more groups than just art kids, whereas crazy art activities appeals to just crazy art kids, haha.
I agree, the bands would be a good idea. I have a lot of people who want to perform at an open mic already so we should start making a list. I can handle that if you guys want, just throw people my way and I can organize it.
I ran into Rachel in the computer lab yesterday and we discussed the pros and cons of a cover charge... since many events on campus are free, an enforced cover charge may turn people off to the event, but maybe a "suggested donation of $2.00" might help to bring in more revenue.
Sometime tomorrow I'll post the mailer design on the blog in case anyone hasn't seen it yet :)
I think that is a really good idea. If we promote it right I think we could make a pretty good amount of cash. I think the idea of making it semi-artsy but also keeping in mind others would help us too. I had this idea of making/buying big blank cookies and letting people pay to decorate/eat the cookies. Its sort of art related but also appeals to hungry people who like fun. I think things like that plus music and other food would make this thing really successful.

Anyway, thats my two cents.
